Since 1913, the Reading Symphony Orchestra has been providing uninterrupted access to exceptional classical music to the citizens of Berks County and beyond. Under its current music director Andrew Constantine, the orchestra currently performs six concerts annually on its Classics series with additional Pops performances, and collaborations with other community performing arts organizations.

Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 7:30 PM - Pathetique
Reading favorite, violinist Eric Wyrick, returns with celebrated multi-genre composer Steve Mackey for a performance of his groundbreaking Four Iconoclastic Episodes. Following this, Tchaikovsky’s musical ‘last will and testament,’ the incomparable Pathetique Symphony, probes the very heart of the human condition with its searing melodies and brooding intensity.

Beethoven’s powerful Eroica Symphony, dedicated to ‘the memory of a great man’ — Napoleon Bonaparte — has always thrilled audiences. Equally thrilling will be American music from the early twentieth century master George Chadwick and the contemporary master, Richard Danielpour, whose dynamic Viola Concerto will introduce Brett Deubner to Reading audiences for the first time.

Aaron Copland’s majestic Lincoln Portrait, a tribute to our nation’s sixteenth president, comes alive in a new way with photochoreography by Westwater Arts depicting images from the Civil War era. The program also includes Vaughan Williams’ hymn-woven Symphony No. 5 in D Major, together with Interludes by Philip Glass, and George Butterworth’s The Banks of Green Willow.
