Lil’ Kim is an American rapper and actress who rose to fame in the mid-1990s first as a member of the hip-hop group Junior M.A.F.I.A. and later as a solo artist. During the ’90s, Lil’ Kim turned the tables on male-dominated rap. Although most of her records bore a “Parental Advisory” sticker, Kim was a critical popular success, scoring number-one hits and garnering lucrative endorsement deals. Throughout her career, Lil’ Kim has sold over 15 million albums and 30 million singles worldwide and has earned many accolades for her work. In 2012, she was honorably listed on VH1’s “100 Greatest Women in Music” list at number 45, the second highest position for a solo female hip-hop artist. Today, she is the only female rapper, besides Missy Elliott, to have at least 3 certified Platinum albums so far.
